Hello,

Due to the long post dial delay I decided to play a ringback to voip customers generated by the Dial application - "r".

Asterisk starts playing almost as soon as the DIAL button is pressed on the phone keypad and continues to play until the call is answered (or not - then is disconnected).

I am wondering if there is a way so asterisk/a2b can play a kind of a progress tone (short beeps - or whatever else) only until the terminating operator starts playing the ringback which indicates that the called party's phone is ringing. I remember this used to be used some time ago in PSTN analogue lines.
The above describes the experience the customer would have. I know that some providers send Progress SIP messages and some of them play early media indicating ringback.

Hi

From https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/ ... ation_Dial, it suggests that you can change the tone in indications.conf

However, where is the PDD happening, with most carriers, it's pretty instant.

Joe,

I will have a look at the Dial app in more details - thanks for the URL.

Some operators (very cheap ones) use quite a lot of failover routes when trying to connect the call which increases the delay. The more reliable ones (and more expensive) do not take that long to pass the call to the destination.
Perhaps the solution will be to change the operators and not to try come up with a workaround... :-)

Thanks for your comments.

Marcin
