Interesting. Whatever became of this? An IRC application would definitely be useful for posting any "Quick Q's" and as previously noted, group discussions - particularly useful for the "requests"...

A channel bot could easily be setup to log & post to the web (or possibly even the Forum) a copy of the day's communications. This would satisfy both parties concerns - i.e. the ability to have instantaneous responses, coupled with no compromise of the "future knowledge base"...

This would solidify the community aspect without filling up your MSN/ICQ friends list with people who hit you up and the oddest hours! (:P no offense intended to anyone... i do it to! who can keep track of all time zones?). We all know what it's like to have people bug you about work when you're just trying to relax.. but when you're in the chat you can exit whenever you feel.

Thoughts?

If there was an interest my company could definitely sponsor a server to the community covering the setup, ongoing fees & maintenance.

I think at one time we did set one up. But I think people were using our chat or some other purpose than A2B business. That and if people did a session in the chat, then there would be no record of how to resolve issues for others to learn. The forum does a great job of preserving a knowledgebase for new users to learn from past experiences.
