Hi All,

Is there a way to control what new Customer Card Numbers look like?
For Example:

All numbers should be only 8 digits long (achievable by changing interval_len_cardnumber = 8)

All numbers should start with 888xxxxx

All new accounts created using the signup page be in serial starting from 888xxxx1, then 888xxxx2 etc...?

that would be handy for sip_frineds to use their numbers rather than memorising large numbers, which is difficult.

Cheers

Hi

The card numbers, as you pointed out can be changed in length, but they are created randomly as we use them to authenticate our customers.

If they are not created randomly, and you can work out the mathmatical series from a collection of card numbers, then you can work out everybody elses number.

e.g. if I open two sucessive accounts, 88810001 and the second account is 88810002 - then it is fair for me to assume that 88810003,4,5... would also be valid, and therefore, if I were dishonest, I could make calls at someone elses expense.

Please be careful with the securuty, telecom fraud is big business, and at one telecoms company I worked for, we lost over £100,000 between Thursday PM and Monday AM.

Joe

Hi zalabia,

I am sorry to say this and don’t mean to be rude. But doing it that way could be a very big mistake and if I was a con, you would be my favorite telecommunication provider. I would probably even send you a Christmas and New Years Card to ease my conscious a little for all the free minutes I would be stealing from you.

I been in the calling card business since 1997, using seven digit pin numbers and had trouble on a number of occasion with scammers using auto dialers of some kind to attain others peoples pin numbers or unassigned pin’s. Using the method you stated above would increase the risk of people attaining other clients pin’s and making it 100 times easier to get a pin compared to using seven digits as I do and 1,000 times easier compared to using the full 8 digits. There is a reason why many calling card company use a full 10 11 and 12 digits.
