We have successfully configured our asterisk box in a way that we send SMS to it and depending on the content of the SMS, the box take action. It's incredible. The possibilities in the choices of actions are endless:
- open a URL (why not SOAP)
- execute a command or a program accessible from the Linux CLI
- send back a custom text message
- etc.
We have tried many of those possibilities for fun and we know how brilliant the future is going to be. lol
We did it with Kannel, a totally open source SMS Gateway, and some help from someone that I have never really met.
Our future plans will be to sit down and make the A2Blling's SOAP interface work properly, and to initiate calls with Kannel. Unfortunately, right now, we have a few urging priorities that have to be treated before that.
