please do not write in capital letter.

yes you can use a switch instead of a router, but after it depends what you need to do.

you still need a network with a router if you need you asterisk box to reach someone on internet. if you do only local tests/calls, it's OK.

assuming that you have the sip.conf setup properly for the host you are trying to connect to here are other possible problems:

1. Your ISP could be blocking port 5060 udp
- try using another provider or outbound proxy that uses a port other than 5060
2. Your firewall could be blocking 5060 udp
- If u have a firewall or iptables setup make sure it is not blocking 5060 udp
3. You are having problems with your server being behind a NAT
- if you have other SIP devices on your network make sure thay are not using 5060 as their hailing port
- try port forwarding port 5060 in your router to the server's address
- setup the sip_nat.conf file it allows you to specify the external and internal address of the server so that NAT traversal is made easier for the server that is behind the NAT
- Move the server into the router DMZ
- Use SER to frontend your server [this might be too complex for you but i included it for completness sake]
- Stick with IAX providers lot less headaches
- Setup ur server with a static IP on the net and not behind a NAT

If i were you I would make sure I have the sip.conf configured properly before I do any of the above because fixing NAT problems can be a bear especially if networking is not your forte

good luck

hello
thanks for you help. i got it to work but i can't get any consistency.
one day it connects fine; if the server is rebooted for some reason, it might not able to connect to my SIP providers for days and give it another try, suddenly it connects.

tanks anyway
