Hi every one
Is any one of you have an idea of a java applet the can be installed on the mobile phone as sip client, so your cell phone become a sip pone connecting to asterisk server, and you can make a call using your internet connection on your mobile to the asterisk box, so you pay less that using the noraml gsm.

If any one has any idea, please let me know

What's network type do you used? GSM/GPRS? answer for this - NO. this is VERY slow net.
But, G3 networks, etc (WiMAX coming soon!) will let you do this easy - you can use sell-phones with windows-mobile or PDA for this :)
but client program on java for voip is not possible i think. voip eat lot of cpu, so need minimum a 300-400MHz (mobile cpu) for normal work, so i think all phones with this cpu this is not "simple phone", i mean this is phone-pda or like pda and thats make possible to install voip client.

Yes. it is possible to install a Java, Windows Mobile, on an enabled phone in order to make VoIP calls. But your cellphone OS will have to be compatible with the software that you will be trying to install. Just take a look at this site http://www.minowireless.com/mino/newsupport/.

My old HP-Ipaq 6315 worked good with VOIP client. If you get a fast CPU on your phone and using wifi and win mobile 5, you can do it.

Hi every one

Thank you to every one who is interested on this, there are many now in the market that able to make a voip call using the cell phone for example

fring look at www.fring.com for most nokia phones
there is mobile challange, trupone and others

I was trying to use fring but it seam there is a little problem with asterisk, the call is only on one way

You can download fring to your cell phone for free and there is many feature on it.

But what I want is some thing open source system, that can every one use it, all the cell phones now are able to use java, that's why the idea of java applet for the cell phone, and it's not that the cell phone must be windows, most now using symbian technology like Nokea, the only thing is I am not in cell phone programing other wise I was able to do it, may some one else can do it for the linux comminuty

I got the UTStarcom PPC6700 which is a 400mhz phone running SJPhone. Runs like a dog. Is a Battery killer and CPU killer. It works slowly and is jittery for the voice. I found a simple software with limited features but does not suck up the CPU as badly as SJPhone does. It is called SpeaQ and works well with Asterisk. Only problem is trying to get it to work via NAT environment and Static IP environment. You have to set up 2 extensions so you can a NATed Extension and Static IP Extension when you are on EVDO.

They need to consider the VIA line of CPUs for this device. They offer 1ghz of CPU power without the need of a fan. 400mhz xScale CPUs are just not powerful enough for these PDA phones.
