Greetings,

Though I know I can use the parameter "min_duration_2bill" to give people a "grace" calling time of X seconds in every agi-conf profile despite my Voice Provider charging me for those seconds, I am having some angry users complaining that if all they hear during the calls they make is the calling tone for like a minute or something and they hang up after giving up, the billing system will charge them the 45 seconds, minute, minute and a half, etc, etc nonetheless.

A friend of mine proved me that a certain system he is using to make calls is only charging him since the moment a person, IVR or an answering machine answers the call but if not, then his carrier is charging him nothing.

Is there a parameter, option or trick I can use to start billing when someone/something in the other side answers the call for real? How these guys of this company can detect someone has answered the phone to start the billing process?

Thank you in advance,

PAUL

Hi guys,

After doing some research, I know where the problem is but yet, I don't have a solution for it. So here is what I found:

If I make calls using EXCLUSIVELY my voice service providers, the count of the seconds and minutes is CORRECT, meaning, it will start billing since one person or a recorded voice answers the call. After testing it 5 times, I realized the billing count is correct.

Now, here's the deal..... I live in Miami, FL and I have an Asterisk 1.4.x IP-PBX where A2Billing 1.4.4.1 is up running.

To let my coworkers and Clients make cheaper calls to Ecuador, I have another Asterisk 1.4.x IP-PBX in my overseas office in Guayaquil, Ecuador plugged to a Quintum Tenor AX-2400 FXO Gateway with ten analog lines connected to it. I make the connection between both IP-PBXs using an IAX2 Trunk and everything works fine, however, here is where the problem begins....

When the connection between my IP-PBX in Miami and the FXO Gateway in Ecuador is successfully established to dial an Ecuadorean land line or a cell phone line, an "ANSWERED" signal is sent from the Guayaquil's IP-PBX to the Miami's IP-PBX making it believe that the two calling parties are -ALREADY- talking when the truth is that the Gateway sent the ANSWERED signal right after it picked up the first free line to dial and ring the destination number BUT NEVER CHECKING IF THE OTHER SIDE PICKED UP THE PHONE, therefore, that explains -WHY- the counter of A2Billing starts with a false "answered" signal and hence, the platform starts to bill wrongly. Not A2Billing's fault for sure but I'd like to know if there is a workaround for my problem and see if there is something I can do to force the gateway to send a -REAL ANSWERED- status to A2Billing when the destination user (or voicemail/answering machine) picks up the phone.

I truly appreciate any help I get from you guys.

- PAUL

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE SOLVED THE PROBLEM WITH THE QUINTUM TENOR AX2400!!!!!

I HAD TO CONFIGURE IN THE "CAS Signaling Group-line" on the "ANSWER / DISCONNECT SUPERVISION" the following:

Tone based supervision: Choose Answer & Disconnect Supervision
Answer Supervision Mode: Only check "MORE SENSITIVE"

Leave the rest as is and that's it now it sends the "ANSWERED" signal upon a REAL communication with the other party!

:D :D :D

Best Regards,

PAUL

Try using the parameter callprogress=yes in your zapata.conf file

If you are using newer versions of Asterisk add that parameter in your chan_dahdi.conf

Also, try to set the rxgain= and txgain= to higher values like 3.0 or 4.0

Good luck!
