This page is a shame!

Asterisk is a great Software it´s free for everybody like A2billing. For some weeks ago I had the same problem. I bought some g729 licences with Regards to Marc.

At the moment there is a special offer for 8 USD per channel.

If you are not able to spend some money for the g729 codec you should
not use Asterisk.

niranjan_lk I will not support you in the forum.

Good bye.

Hi

I note that the licences referred to in the source code have not been included in that site.

But having checked this out a while a go, I understand the license is for non-commercial use or for educational purposes only.

It is a fair bet that if you are using A2Billing, then you are doing it for commercial reasons, thus these licenses are not suitable.

We at Star2Billing have turned away customers who wanted these licences installed for them, and recommended that they use either a transcoding card, or standard licenses from Digium.

Just want to show you guys how much the patent holder of the g729 codec charge for commercial
use. Me, I am the developer of the first Voip client for the Iphone which support Sip and Iax.
I was thinking about to implement the g729 codec to my app. It´s nice to have, but it tooks too much
batterie cause the CPU is working hard.

Here a mail from November 2008, just to give you an idea how much you have to spend as developer
to start with the g729 codec.

Cheers

Dear Michael,

Thank you for the email and further to our conversation today, please find a summary below.

VoiceAge Corporation sells codec library implementations for many speech and audio codecs.

With the G.729 codec standard, when you purchase our codec library implementations, we can also sell you a bank of prepaid licensed channels.

The codec library implementation is a one-time fee and the library can be used as many times as needed, as long as the software is bundled (integrated) within your application. The list price of the G.729 library for Windows, Linux or Mac OSX is $10,000 USD for each operating system. And, discount this to the price of $7,000 USD for each operating system.

The pricing for intellectual property rights (IPR) coverage for G.729 is as follows:

Optional Pricing for Non-Infringement Warranty for G.729 Implementations:
Quantity
Price Per Channel
Price Per Package in US$

G.729 250 channels of IPR*
250
$10.00
$2,500

G.729 500 channels of IPR*
500
$7.50
$3,750

G.729 1,000 channels of IPR*
1,000
$5.00
$5,000

G.729 2,500 channels of IPR*
2,500
$4.25
$10,625

G.729 5,000 channels of IPR*
5,000
$3.75
$18,750

G.729 10,000 channels of IPR*
10,000
$2.75
$27,500

G.729 25,000 channels of IPR*
25,000
$2.50
$62,500

*The IPR (intellectual Proprietary Rights) included into our G.729 offer are covering the following patent holders: France Telecom, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, Toshiba Corporation and Universite de Sherbrooke.

I mentioned that you will have two years to deplete your prepaid bank of G.729 licensed channels. If you should deplete your bank prior to the two years, then you can purchase a new bank of channels. If you do not deplete your bank within two years, the remaining channels in the bank will be expired.

I also promised to provide you an example of your scenario:

Year 1

One-time implementation fee (Windows, MacOSX or Linux library) $7,000 USD

G.729 1000 channels of IPR $5,000 USD

Total $12,000 USD

Year 2

Purchase an additional bank of 100 channels $5,000 USD

(There is no implementation fee in the 2nd year.)

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any additional inquiries.

Best regards,

Susan

And to say Asterisk project is supported by Digium and supporting the company will not only further the future, of not just to say Asterisk but A2Billing which depends on Asterisk.
There are people behind the project and i wish people like niranjan_lk do understand that they don't just survive on oxygen alone. There is food to be brought to the table, a mind to be natured and a company to keep going. :x
