Dear all

I'm posting this on behalf of one of Star2Billing's customers who employed us to provide a residential broadband service for Kerry Broadband based in the Republic of Ireland.

VoIP and wireless systems is something I have a background in, so I was quite keen on doing this project.

The solution was to use A2Billing and FreePBX in tandem to provide Voicemail, extension to extension dialling, call forwarding and a number of other features. All calls were forwarded onto A2Billing for rating and termination.

A2BILLING – A ROBUST SOLUTION FOR WISP’S


Kerry Broadband* is a large scale WISP operating in rural South West Ireland and has a customer base all using
wireless technology to access the internet.

As the roll out of traditional ADSL expanded in our region, we had to look at other value added services in
order to compete with the large Telco’s... We noticed a small number of our clients had decided to discontinue
our broadband service and subscribe to the ADSL companies purely because they were offering broadband
and telephone bundles so we decided to look at a telephony option to offer our clients.

We did the usual internet searches and all results pointed back to an Asterisk based solution. Asterisk is an
open source package and works extremely well once you get your head around the terminology. We
implemented the software and used it successfully to test our SIP trunks and to give client demonstrations.
The time came to advertise our voice service but there was one more problem.
How do we bill our customers??

We contacted the guys at Star2Billing and straight away they knew exactly what our requirements were.

Within a day or two, we had a fully operating A2BILLING server. The ease of setting up the
server was due to the remote access service provided by the Star2Billing team. Of course, when we started to
use the system, we had some questions regarding various modules and this was primarily due to the lack of
knowledge on our side but the Star2Billing team were always quick to respond with a simple and easy
explanation.

Now, after four months using the system, it runs in the background without any issues and we are now in a
much stronger market position offering both broadband and telephone bundles and most important, keeping
our customer base.

As a large WISP operator, Kerry Broadband would recommend A2BILLING to any operator thinking of offering
VOIP services.
