I think xrg might be referring to using a properly formed locale string. For instance on my UK English system I use 'en_GB'. Americans use 'en_US'. Greek 'gr_GR' I think.
The closest I can find to Macedonian on my system is 'sq', for Albanian. Your distribution may provide more/different locales.

:D men i dont understand you what you mean "The closest I can find to Macedonian on my system is 'sq', for Albanian " in Macedonia we speak Macedonian language you can not make comparison Macedonian to Albanian is 180 degree diversity and if you mean for local string then you can use 'mk_MK' .

 Sorry about that. Wan^h^hikipedia lead me to believe that you shared a character set. I don't have mk_MK on my system, that was my first guess. :(

I'm sorry, being a native England resident I've never really looked into localisation much. I did move a couple of threads into the translation forum recently, as they seemed to contain useful advice...

Added after 2 minutes:

OK, I just checked and the really useful thread with info on using msgfmt wasn't amongst those I moved to the Translation forum. It's /somewhere/ and seemed to cover most of what would be needed, to the eye of someone who's never done it.

I've moved a few more threads into the Translation forum. There is one post in particular from Svetur that I think may be the crux of your problem. He is referring to a setting in your text editor I believe.
I wanted to say "use UTF-8" earlier, but I'm enough of an i18n n00b to not be sure about something as simple as that.

I couldn't tell the difference between Greek and Macedonian either, yet I'm quite comfortable with English. Please, let's not be rude to one another here.
